The QDM-based HQMF IG cannot create templates for poorly defined attributes. The MAT cannot generate HQMF for these attributes if they are not in the templates.
The QDM-based HQMF Implementation Guide was not able to define templates for a number of attributes because their definitions were ambiguous or marked "TBD" in the QDM December 2013 specification.
The attachments on this issue contain a more detailed breakout of the reasons for our removal/clarification recommendations. The following section describes the current state as determined in the April 16, 2014 QDM User Group Meeting (with a minor update in early June).
Attributes To Be Clarified/Defined
The following attributes will be clarified or defined. The definitions will be brought before the User Group in a future meeting.
1) The QDM User Group did not reach consensus to remove the following attributes, therefore we will keep them and redefine them.
Medication, Dispensed (dose, route)
- Intended to represent the dose and route instructions provided at the dispense
- May need to initially map it to the Medication, Order (if possible)
- There was about a 50/50 split on whether to keep it or remove it
2) The QDM User Group did reach consensus to confirm the recommendation that the following attribute be defined:
Device, Applied (removal datetime)
Datatypes To Be Clarified/Defined
The following datatypes will be clarified or defined. The definitions will be brought before the User Group in a future meeting.
Patient Characteristic
Patient Characteristic Birth Date
Patient Characteristic Expired
Patient Characteristic Race
Provider Characteristic
Attributes To Be Removed
The following attributes were recommended to be removed and confirmed by consensus of the QDM User Group:
The following attributes are redundant since their values are reflected in the Datatype itself. None are currently used in MU2 measures.
Attribute | Datatypes |
---|---|
status | Diagnosis (Active | Inactive | Resolved), Symptom (Active, Assessed, Inactive, Resolved) |
The following attributes are redundant since other datetime attributes already exist. None are currently used in MU2 measures.
Attribute | Datatypes |
---|---|
date | Medication (Administered), Substance (Administered) |
time | Medication (Administered), Substance (Administered) |
The following attributes are too ambiguous or have no clear meaning. None are currently used in MU2 measures.
Attribute | Datatypes |
---|---|
environment | Symptom, Active |
number | Medication (Active | Administered | Adverse Effects | Allergy | Discharge | Dispensed | Intolerance | Order), Substance (Administered, Adverse Event, Allergy, Intolerance, Order, Recommended) |
reason | Patient Characteristic Sex |
The following attributes do not make sense in the context of their datatype. None are currently used in MU2 measures.
Attribute | Datatypes |
---|---|
anatomical approach site | Intervention (Order | Performed | Recommended) |
anatomical location site | Intervention (Order | Performed | Recommended) |
dose | Medication (Adverse Effects | Allergy | Intolerance), Substance (Adverse Event | Allergy | Intolerance) |
frequency | Medication (Adverse Effects | Allergy | Intolerance), Substance (Adverse Event | Allergy | Intolerance) |
method | Intervention (Order | Performed | Recommended) |
refills | Medication (Active | Administered | Adverse Effects | Allergy | Intolerance), Substance (Administered | Adverse Event | Allergy | Intolerance) |
route | Medication (Adverse Effects | Allergy | Intolerance), Substance (Adverse Event | Allergy | Intolerance) |
Categories To Be Removed
The following category was confirmed to be removed by QDM User Group consensus. The datatype is too broad to be defined and mapped to an HQMF pattern.
System Characteristic
Attributes To Be Renamed
The QDM User Group reached consensus to rename Patient Characteristic Expired's reason attribute to cause since it is likely intended to represent the cause of death.
Attribute | Datatypes | New Attribute |
---|---|---|
reason | Patient Characteristic Expired | cause |
Attributes to Be Further Researched
The QDM User Group felt that further research should be done before taking action on these attributes.
1) The following attributes are too ambiguous or have no clear meaning. None are currently used in MU2 measures.
Attribute | Datatypes |
---|---|
patient preference | all applicable |
provider preference | all applicable |
related to | Care Goal |
The QDM User Group suggested contacting MU3 developers who may be planning to use these in patient-based measures.
