SME Session 1: A National Solution for FHIR Endpoint Discovery

The FAST Directory, Versions and Scale Tiger Team worked on proposed solutions for each domain area reflected in its name, however, this SME Panel Session will focus on the solution developed to address barriers related to a National Directory for FHIR Endpoints.

The group of SMEs invited to participate in this session will be asked to evaluate the team's proposed solution, "A National Solution for FHIR Endpoint Discovery",  and provide their expert insight in their own area of expertise, as well as the opinion on the topic.

This solution aims to answer the following questions:

  • How do we find a FHIR endpoint for an organization or provider?
  • How do we know what FHIR operations the endpoint supports?
  • How do we know the authentication and authorization requirements for the endpoint?

The solution proposes a model focused on an API-enabled national source for endpoint directory information, available to any local directory or workflow. The directory contains entity and individual information to determine endpoint relationships. The endpoint information shall include supported IG’s, trust frameworks, metadata requirements, etc.
