Thank you for your inquiry regarding Hospital Harm - Severe Hyperglycemia (CMS871v2). To determine the measure performance rate, the total number of hyperglycemic event days during the inpatient hospitalization (which is the Measure Observation 2 associated with the Numerator) is divided by the total number of eligible hospital days of the inpatient hospitalization (which is the Measure Observation 1, associated with the Denominator).

In regard to the Sample Calculation Flow Diagram you included, the c = 100 is the total number of hyperglycemic event days across all eligible inpatient encounters during the measurement period (Measure Observation 2 associated with the Numerator) and the a = 550 is the total number of eligible hospital days across all eligible inpatient encounters during the measurement period (Measure Observation 1 associated with the Denominator).

Denominator Exclusions should also be excluded from both Measure Observations 1 and 2 and should not be included in the rate. However, there are 2 known issues that impacts the calculation of exclusion cases. https://oncprojectracking.healthit.gov/support/browse/EKI-18 and https://oncprojectracking.healthit.gov/support/browse/EKI-19

      Hi Team,

We needed a clarification on the Performance Rate calculation for CMS 871 measure.

As CMS 871 is a Ratio measure and has measure observations coming into picture, it is more like a continuous variable measure, do we need to calculate Performance Rate for this measure?

Also, according to the below attached screenshot from the measure flow, we would like to know what c =100, a =550 mean? Is it the number of Episodes or Sum of Observations of all Episodes?

As we know that, If a case meets the denominator exclusion, the case should also be excluded from the measure observations and not be counted in the scores. Could you please throw some light on how the Performance Rate is calculated for CMS 871.

      Thanks,

      Shravanthi S
