Thank you for your question. Currently, eCQM value sets only contain RxNorm semantic clinical drugs (generic name + strength + dose form; e.g. aspirin 300mg oral tablet). You mentioned this issue was similar to CQM-855; can you confirm if your issue is related to 1) the lack of branded drugs in the value sets; or 2) the lack of more general term types such as semantic clinical drug form (generic name + dose form; e.g. aspirin oral tablet) and semantic clinical drug group (generic name + dose form group; e.g. aspirin oral product)?

In addition, please note that the denominator criteria for CMS114 (VTE-6) do not include any references to medications, therefore RxNorm issues shouldn't be a factor in capturing the denominator population for this measure.

CMS/ONC are currently looking to expand the term types included in the measure to help vendors (particularly on the inpatient side) to more easily capture inpatient medications.

The RX Norms that are presented from our Vendor (Cerner) are not inclusive of inpatient medications. This causes the patient to fall out of our denominators. On the eCQM Submitter / Vendor Call – Session #2, the moderators told us to put in an issue to receive in writing the acknowledgement that due to this restrictive code, our values will not qualify. We need a written response that the VTE 3-6 with 0's in the Denominator will not jeopardize our ability to obtain Meaningful Use Stage 2 year 1 Attestation. We were also informed that we would not apply the changes with the April 1, 2014 release to our 2014 year for attestation. This is similar to the JIRA CQM855.
