FAST Call to Action

Bob – pace at which FHIR is being adopted has accelerated dramatically over last 14 months

  • Acceleration due to regulatory action (e.g. 21st Century Cures) and Da Vinci use case development & implementation
    • Da Vinci has filed 5 new Project Scope Cases, plans to ballot 7 IGs
  • Had not anticipated rapid pace of adoption when developing P2/FAST – need to accelerate original 3 year timeframe
  • Paul/Patrick/Bob have started developing a set of initial thoughts about what needs to be done from a regulatory perspective
    • E.g. creation/adoption of standards, identifying/addressing regulatory obstacles
    • Goal is to obtain feedback from HHS (e.g. ONC, CMS) about what they are willing to support from a regulatory & standards development process, in order to determine tiger team priorities
      • Not trying to change the intent behind the Tiger Teams, rather trying to obtain guidance about priorities (e.g. is there a strong opinion that we need to focus on existing standards vs. do we need to provide guidance on new/developing standards)

Tony Little – is attendance/participation on this group sufficient for those goals or do we need to recruit more broadly?

  • Bob – probably broad enough if members can commit the time. Also if we get more material support from ONC (e.g. SMEs for standards or policy development)

Bob – Tiger Team members should review 4 new use cases between now and next week’s call
