We find this measure to be well-constructed and feasible, We would only recommend consideration of recognizing the use of ICD-9 codes 305.1 and 649.0 and equivalent ICD-10 codes as equivalent to documenting tobacco use status. We would also consider tightening the measure requirements so that counseling must be given during the measurement period, as this is a population that would benefit from frequent counseling.
