Thank you for your question regarding CMS1218v2, Hospital Harm - Postoperative Respiratory Failure. The measure does not restrict laboratory results based on whether they were performed in a central laboratory or via point-of-care (POC) testing. Results from POC devices may be acceptable provided that the result meets the following criteria:
- It is captured as a discrete data element in the electronic health record;
- It is mapped to a code included in the applicable value set (e.g., appropriate LOINC code); and
- It meets the measure’s timing, specimen source, and other requirements as defined in the logic and value sets.
Users may review the relevant value sets in the Value Set Authority Center (VSAC) to review the codes included in the value sets for laboratory tests referenced in the measure.
