We are finalizing the build logic for our CMS144v12 report and require definitive clarification on the denominator criteria.
The measure specification states that a patient qualifies for the denominator if they have a: 'Current or prior left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤ 40% or documentation of moderately or severely depressed left ventricular systolic function: G8923'
Our interpretation of this requirement is as follows:
- A clinician can identify a patient as having LVSD based on a qualitative finding, such as the text 'severely depressed left ventricular systolic function' in a historical echocardiogram report.
- To include this patient in the denominator for the eCQM, the required action is to align the Quality Data Code G8923 for that patient during the performance period.
- The eCQM's calculation logic will then identify the patient based on the presence of this G8923 code (in addition to the other age, diagnosis, and encounter criteria).
Can you please confirm with a 'Yes' or 'No' that this interpretation is correct? Specifically, is the assertion of code G8923 the mandatory and sufficient mechanism for reporting that a patient meets this LVSD criterion based on a qualitative assessment?
