Thank you for your question about CMS334v6/PC-02, Cesarean Birth. The measure is designed to produce a rate of cesarean births among a subset of the general obstetric population of women. Because the measure focuses on nulliparous women with a term, singleton baby in a vertex position, the only exclusions to the denominator population are those codes in the "Genital Herpes" value set, "Placenta Accreta Spectrum Previa or Vasa Previa" value set, and the "Abnormal Presentation" value set. Extensive testing made it clear that there is no need to exclude for all known indications for performing cesareans, since these types of medical conditions are less common and would not significantly increase a hospital’s adjusted cesarean rates.

For PC 02 Cesarean Birth, there is no exclusion for pelvic trauma. We have a patient who was in a car accident and suffered a pelvic fracture so having a vaginal birth is unsafe. Patients like this should be excluded.
