Thank you for your question regarding CMS190v13, Intensive Care Unit Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis. If a patient was admitted to ICU 10-9-25 and discharged the ICU on 10-10-25, the ICU LOS calculation is 10/10/2025 - 10/9/2025 = 1 day. So this patient won't be excluded from the measure and will be evaluated if VTE prophylaxis was given within a qualifying time frame. This patient would be excluded from the measure dominator if the total inpatient encounter LOS is less than 2 days (inpatient discharge date - inpatient admission date < 2 days).

I have a case in which the patient was admitted to ICU 10-9-25 and discharged on 10-10-25. Is this considered a 2 day ICU stay or would they have met the exclusion of less than 2 day stay.  Do we use calendar days, for instant my patient came in 10-09-25 @ 2230 and left 10-10-25 @ 0730 would it still be considered a a 2 day.
