Thank you for your feedback on the Statin Therapy for the Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease eCQM. We will consider this change for future updates to the measure. Please note that the current measure does include a denominator exception: “Patients with documentation of a medical reason for not being prescribed statin therapy”. Providers can use this with an appropriate code from the value set for "Medical Reason" (2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.1007), where clinically appropriate.

Women of child-bearing age (15-55) with functioning female reproductive organs who are not on consistent and reliable contraception should not be prescribed a Statin as Statins are currently a Category D in pregnancy. There is no systematic way to mark the charts of all patients who may be trying to conceive (or not trying to prevent conception), thus we would like to suggest that either an ICD10 (Z31.xx group might work) be used to remove patients from denominator, or consider other ways to exclude these patients from this UDS measure.
