Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS190v13/VTE-2: Intensive Care Unit Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis. To meet "Encounter with No VTE Prophylaxis Due to Medical Reason", documentation is required for both no pharmacological VTE prophylaxis AND no mechanical VTE prophylaxis. Both reasons must be documented within the qualified time frame.

If the patient was administered an anticoagulant (as defined in the applicable value sets and routes) during the qualifying timeframe, the case will meet the numerator condition of “Encounter with Low Risk for VTE or Anticoagulant Administered.”

Hello, If a DR writes an order for no pharmacologic VTE prophylaxis due to "receiving anticoagulation" would this put the patient in the numerator if written within the appropriate timeframe?  If not, would the patient then have to have some kind of mechanical prophylaxis or reason for no mechanical prophylaxis written to qualify?
