We are having trouble with performance on this measure, due to our surgical patients needing an opioid at dischare
Hi, Has there been any consideration on the Safe Use of Opioids - Concurrent Prescribing eCQM and how it affects surgical hospitals? We have some patients who have been on a PRN benzodiazepine for years, which would not be appropriate to stop. These post-surgical patients also need to go home on an opioid for acute pain control. It seems that this measure penalizes surgical hospitals, as almost all of are pts. get discharged with an opioid script. Despite our best efforts, some of these patients are prescribed one or more new or continuing opioid or a benzodiazepine at discharge. We are struggling with providing appropriate patient care, while also trying to not have a ton of pts. in the numerator. Thanks, Kim
