Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS996: Appropriate Treatment for ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Patients in the Emergency Department (ED). The measure excludes encounters in which mechanical circulatory assist device placement or removal, intubation, and cardiopulmonary emergency occurs 24 hours or less before the start of the ED encounter or during the ED encounter. We understand the intent of your inquiry is to recommend exclusion of encounters in which mechanical circulatory assist device placement or removal, intubation, or cardiopulmonary emergency occurred after ED discharge. Thank you for your feedback; however, it does not align with the measure’s intent to exclude the aforementioned interventions that occurred before or during the ED encounter.
