Thank you for your question about the Safe Use of Opioids – Concurrent Prescribing eCQM, CMS506. Patients who are admitted to an inpatient encounter and subsequently transferred to a skilled nursing level of service within the same facility (swing beds) should not be included in the measure. eCQMs are not able to differentiate patients based upon level of service. You will need to work with your EHR vendor to remove these patients from the measure for purposes of reporting. We will look into ways to address this in a future version of the measure.

    • Safe Use of Opioids measure is counting "sign and held orders" for patients being discharged from acute and admitted swing bed.

These orders are intended for inpatient status only but it is counting this and the patient's home medications. Are others finding this issue as well with discharge to Swing Bed? Are future changes to this measure going to exclude discharge to Swing Bed?
