The eCQM does NOT to assess treatment for a hypoglycemic event but rather assesses hypoglycemia as an outcome in the hospital inpatient setting, indicating an adverse drug-related event. Specifically, CMS816v4 assesses the number of inpatient hospitalizations for patients age 18 and older who were administered at least one hypoglycemic medication during the encounter and who suffer the harm of a severe hypoglycemic event during the encounter.

      The upcoming eCQM for severe hospital harm hyper/hypoglycemia includes tracking the use of hypoglycemia medications. At our large health system, we use juice to treat hypoglycemia in patients are conscious, alert, oriented, and not NPO. Can we please continue to use juice as treatment for hypoglycemia, or will this no longer be an option?
