Thank you for your question on CMS506v7, Safe Use of Opioids--Concurrent Prescribing. “HG” is a HCPCS modifier and it is not appropriate to use this modifier code without an associated CPT or HCPCS code. To qualify the patient for the OUD exclusion using the "HG" code, any CPT or HCPCS code that has this modifier can be used.

*CMS996v6 For Safe Use of Opioids, OID 2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1111.177, we noticed one of the items listed shows a Code System CPT showing code HG. Is this a HCPCS or CPT modifier? Also, does this mean ANY CPT/HCPCS code that has this modifier should be used to qualify the patient for the OID exclusion?
