Thank you for your question on CMS506v7, Safe Use of Opioids--Concurrent Prescribing. For the opioid use disorder (OUD) exclusion, the diagnosis code must be found any time prior to the end of the inpatient encounter. The logic "before day of end of InpatientEncounter.relevantPeriod" means that the OUD diagnosis must be found any time prior to the time of the discharge.

    • Need to understand the timing of start and stop

We are unsure of the CQL meaning with regard to when the clock starts for Opioid Use Disorder Dx. Per the snip below, can the dx code be found any time prior to the start of the Encounter? Also wondering when the clock stops? Doe "before day of end of InpatientEncounter.relevantPeriod mean day before discharge?

      Thanks!
