    • Thank you for your question regarding CMS506v7: Safe Use of Opioids - Concurrent Prescribing. This measure has no allowances for one-time medications. Patients prescribed a benzodiazepine and an opioid at discharge would be in the measure numerator.

Are there allowances for one-time medications? For example, a patient is discharged on a pain medication but is prescribed a one-time benzodiazepine prior to a future dated imaging study which is common practice. This is not really addressing concurrent prescribing as this medication would be taken after the prescribing timeframe for the opioid.
