Thank you for your question regarding CMS506v7 Safe Use of Opioids - Concurrent Prescribing. The measure logic specifies that the opioids must be distinct, which means that they must have different RxNorm codes. Since the medication in your example has different RxNorm codes, Oxycodone 5mg/5ml oral solution (1049604) and Oxycodone 5mg tablet (1049221), they would be considered distinct medication. Therefore, a patient prescribed both medications would be in the measure numerator.

      • If a patient is prescribed the same exact medication and dose, one in tablet form and another in solution form, does this count as two different medications? Some patients have surgical limitations initially and require liquid solution before they can transition to a tablet. This is the same medication but these instances are counting as outliers. Example: oxycodone 5mg/5ml oral solution + oxycodone 5mg tablet
