Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS996: Appropriate Treatment for ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Patients in the Emergency Department (ED). CMS and the measure developer will consider the inclusion of ICD-10-PCS codes in the Insertion or Replacement of Mechanical Circulatory Assist Device value set (OID:2.16.840.1.113883.3.3157.4052) in an upcoming Annual Update.

    • This is affecting exclusions not being captured since the only codes in the value set that are captured are CPT codes and SNOWMED

If a patient goes from ED to inpatient and and has a "Insertion or Replacement of Mechanical Circulatory Assist Device" final coding has to use an inpatient procedure code ICD-10 PCS and is not able to use a CPT code. Would like to request that the ICD-10 PCS version of these codes are added to the value set as the only way that this is currently able to be captured via an exclusion is to manually enter the CPT code under the "Histories" tab which is a very manual process when this could be captured via the final coded diagnosis if ICD-10 PCS version of the CPT codes are added.
