Thank you for your inquiry regarding Inpatient Hospital Reporting (IQR) eCQMs. eCQMs are not able to differentiate patients based upon level of service. Therefore, patients who are admitted to an inpatient encounter and subsequently discharged to a skilled nursing level of service within the same facility (swing beds) should not be included in eCQMs. The Swing Bed patients are not hospital inpatients and should not be included in the HIQR data. You will need to work with your EHR vendor to remove these patients from measures for purposes of reporting.

I am seeking clarification regarding the Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) program measures and their applicability to patients in swing bed status.

Specifically, I would like to understand whether it is the intent of the IQR program electronic clinical quality measures to exclude patients in swing bed status from all reporting requirements. Given the unique nature of swing bed arrangements, I want to ensure our facility is interpreting and applying the guidelines correctly.

Could you please confirm the stance on this matter? I do not see any specific exclusions to swing bed status listed out in the inpatient reporting measures. I have seen questions submitted specific to 506 regarding discharge from swing bed status, but my clarification is regarding all available inpatient eCQMs.
