eCQM Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding results differ from Chart Audit Measure Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding results due to the Denominator Exclusions for "admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)"
Both the eCQM Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding Specifications and the Chart Audit Measure Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding Specifications for Denominator Exclusions excluded initial population patients "admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)".
However, the Chart Audit Measure Chart Audit Measure Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding Specifications for Denominator Exclusions include the following guidance "Notes for Abstraction"
"If the newborn is admitted to the NICU for observation or transitional care, select allowable value "no". Transitional care is defined as a stay of 4 hours or less in the NICU. There is no time limit for admission to observation."
The eCQM specifications do not provide similar guidance. Therefore, for this eCQM, should all initial population patients who have a location in the NICU, regardless of whether it is for observation or transitional care, be exclude?
