Thank you for your inquiry. This measure includes the use of quantitative urine albumin-creatinine ratio testing which is reported as a numeric value. As such, there is no breakdown in measure reporting as the use of inequality signs such as “<” or “>” do not apply. Certain laboratories that have employed a workaround for samples where the albumin levels are undetectable have reported success in recognition of results using a less than sign as long as a numeric value is associated. The measure steward, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) has not received any reports of results reported as >300 mg/g failing to be captured by the measure.

If this is occurring in your institution, the NKF would appreciate the opportunity to connect with the laboratory director to help address the uACR reporting standards.

    • We are aware of the known issue with non-numeric results in some instances disqualifying the uACR result from being readable - and are concerned that we don't exactly know exactly what might be considered non-numeric.

For CMS 951 v3 - there is currently a known issue where non-numeric results disqualify the urine result from being readable by the measure. The examples of non-numeric results are words, such as descriptions of an inadequate specimen. What is not clear, does a less than or greater than symbol also disqualify a result (does ">" or "<" disqualify a result). Example - if an abnormal result appears as ">300 mg / g albumin" - does the ">" disqualify the numeric result
