Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS108v12/VTE-1 (Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis). Clinically equivalent services may be mapped to the codes used in the measure’s value sets to satisfy the denominator exclusion criteria. We are unable to provide specific guidance related to the mapping of codes, in this case for mapping “Exploration Chest”, “Thoracotomy Video Assisted Robotic”, or “Insertion Shunt Ventricular Peritoneal” to the "General Surgery" and "Intracranial Neurosurgery" value sets.

The "General Surgery" value set represents concepts for procedures of general surgery, such as abdominal procedures, or non-cardiothoracic procedures. The “Exploration Chest” and “Thoracotomy Video Assisted Robotic” surgeries are typically cardiothoracic procedures, and therefore not included in the "General Surgery" value set.
The "Intracranial Neurosurgery" value set represents concepts for procedures with an open approach. The "Insertion Shunt Ventricular Peritoneal" procedure is a percutaneous procedure, and therefore is not included in the "Intracranial Neurosurgery" value set.

    • Can not find a SNOMED code for value set mapping

Our Epic team is trying to resolve a couple errors that is impacting our ability to run QRDA-1 files.  They are not finding SNOMED codes that need to be mapped to the value set.  Within the VSAC, when searching for the following procedures, there is no corresponding code -

      Procedures -

      • Exploration Chest
      • Thoracotomy Video Assisted Robotic
      • Insertion Shunt Ventricular Peritoneal

Can you provide some guidance on how to map the above procedures to the value set for VTE-1 for 2024?

      Thanks,

      Melissa Rader
