Aspirin does not qualify for VTE prophylaxis, as it has not been recognized as an FDA-approved medication for VTE prophylaxis since 2016. Yes, patients with a principal procedure of hip or knee replacement surgery will be excluded from the VTE eCQM measures.

    • We are unsure of what medications qualify as adequate VTE prophylaxis for ortho patients.

      Hello,

I am trying to figure out if aspirin qualifies as adequate VTE prophylaxis for ortho/hip replacement/knee replacement surgery patients. I believe factor xa inhibitors qualify as adequate VTE prophylaxis, but there is no mention of aspirin in the VTE validation tool. In addition, are patients with a principal diagnosis of hip or knee replacement surgery excluded from the VTE eCQM measure? Thank you.
