      Thank you for your question regarding CMS506v6 Safe Use of Opioids - Concurrent Prescribing. If the hospital orders palliative or hospice care during the encounter and the consultation occurred, then the patient is excluded from the denominator, regardless of the manual discontinuation of the original consult. In your example, the case would be excluded from the denominator.

      I would like clarification on a previous issue I created related to palliative care consult orders. We have cases where the palliative care consult was ordered, consult occurred then the order was manually discontinued few days later. You mentioned that if an order was manually discontinued, it shouldn't count towards the exclusion. What if the consult occurred after the order was placed, then order was discontinued several days later, would it still not count towards the exclusion?
