Thank you for your question about CMS1028v2 Severe Obstetric Complications. The delivery encounter utilizes the HospitalizationWithEDOBTriageObservation function to include the total interval from the start of any immediately prior emergency department (ED) visit or obstetric (OB) Triage visit through the observation visit to the discharge of the given encounter. Therefore, the beginning of the encounter may be the beginning of the ED visit encounter, OB Triage encounter, or inpatient (IP) encounter, if the time of discharge from one to the start of the next is one hour or less. Please check with your local IT department or EHR vendor to determine how your EHR system is determining the beginning of an encounter.

    • Accurate timeframe for assessment resulted values for Lab and Physical Exam

      Hello-
Guidance for ePC-07 Risk Adjustment "Lab and Physical Exam" states, "Report the first resulted value 24 hours prior to start of encounter and before time of delivery..."

When reviewing the record for these elements, does my timeframe of "24 hours prior to the encounter" mean I am looking backwards from the arrival time or when the patient was made IP status?

Does "start of encounter" mean at arrival date/time or when the patient becomes an IP.
