Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS951v3. We recently posted an eCQM Known Issue (EKI-32) regarding this issue that notes that the measure steward, the National Kidney Foundation, has a team supporting laboratories who are interested in deploying this simple workaround. If this issue is associated with an external community laboratory, please contact the National Kidney Foundation, who will contact them about the implementation of this workaround.

Because the measure specifications for CMS951v3 require a kidney health evaluation defined by an eGFR AND uACR within the measurement period, a Urine Random Microalbumin test will not meet this criteria. NKF will address this issue and consider expanding the numerator in the next annual update.

    • Unable to fully get credit in the numerator even when test results are completed because lab instrument reports a trace amount as unable to calculate vs a discrete number.

Because of our local Laboratories are resistant in changing how they report out when the Microalbumin/Creatinine Ratio is 'Not Indicated' (when the Urine Random Microalbumin is < 1.2), our EMR Reporting Module is unable to capture this 'result' as part of the Numerator for this metric, hence impacting our performance in a negative way.

Can we report the numerator for this metric by capturing the number of 'Urine Random Microalbumin' tests that were performed in our diabetic patients, instead of the ratio? The Urine Random Microalbumin is necessary for the ratio to be calculated; therefore it's an indirect reflection of the ratio performance.'
