CMS 2: Preventive Care and Screening: Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan
-
This is leading to mistrust in our data, and unreasonable expectations of our physicians who are taking care of patients. It doesn't align with best clinical practices.
Hello!
Please advise for this situation:
- A patient is screened for depression early in the measurement period and is diagnosed with depression.
- As an intervention, PCP prescribed antidepressants
- As is best practice at many FQHCs, patient is screened with a PHQ-9 at each visit and tests positive
- No additional intervention is ordered, because patient is already on anti-depressant
In the current logic, the patient is considered not compliant for follow-up. This should not be the case. The provider will not be ordering new medication every time the patient has a visit.
The logic should account for active medications, especially now that patients diagnosed with depression are no longer excluded.
