Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS996v4, Appropriate Treatment for ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Patients in the Emergency Department (ED). The measure’s initial population includes all patients with a STEMI during an ED encounter. In other words, if a patient develops STEMI at any time during the ED encounter, even if it is not present on arrival, the patient will be included in the initial population.

Currently, the measure does not have contain allowances or exclusions for refusal of care or lytics. The measure developer will consider further measure refinements during an upcoming eCQM Annual Update.

    • We are attempting to optimize our mapping for this measure and have a question regarding timing

If a pt develops a STEMI During the ED encounter, but not present on initial arrival - how is that treated?

Is there any allowances for refusal of Lytics or care?
