Thank you for your inquiry on CMS177v13 (Child and Adolescent Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Suicide Risk Assessment). In order to meet the numerator, the patient must have a suicide risk assessment performed during the Major Depressive Disorder encounter. In your example, the patient would not meet the numerator. This measure does not have a denominator exception for a documented medical reason for not completing a suicide risk assessment.

    • Clarification

If a provider documents a reason for not being able to complete the Suicide Risk Assessment Screening (i.e.- "Patient Refused, Patient Obtunded,", etc.) during the encounter, will this still count against them in the Numerator and the measure will fail, or will this documentation remove the encounter from the Denominator all together? Can a provider still pass this measure if these reasons have been documented for not performing the screening?

      Thank you!
