CMS-130 Why does this Colonoscopy code not count?

      Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS130v12. The measure steward, the National Committee for Quality Assurance, does not include this SNOMED code because a provider can use this code if the sole purpose of the colonoscopy is to remove a polyp in the rectal section of the digestive tract, without advancing the scope farther and performing a complete colonoscopy.

      Our surgeons will sometimes document a patient's colonoscopy as "Colonoscopic Polypectomy" if polyps are removed.  However, the SNOMED code for this isn't listed so it doesn't count.  Can someone please explain why this code doesn't count as a colonoscopy?  455395015, or 311774002
