Thank you for your question regarding CMS819v3, Hospital Harm - Opioid-Related Adverse Events. The capture of patients receiving naloxone for pruritus does not meet the intent of this measure. We will consider the appropriateness of this as an exclusion in a future Annual Update.

Regarding the inclusion of vital signs, LOC, and A&O status in the measure, because this measure uses the administration of an opioid antagonist to indicate an adverse opioid-related event, these additions are not necessary and would add additional burden for reporting.

      Hello,

We have a patient who had a C-Section and then post delivery received a very small dose of  Narcan 0.05mg for severe itching (not for opioid reversal).  This patient is meeting numerator even though the Narcan was not given as a opioid antagonist.

Is there any way this measure can capture this? the intent of the Narcan administration since it was not administered as an opioid antagonist?

Also wondering if this measure could take into account vital signs (B/P, HR, RR) and level of consciousness (LOC) and/or A&O status; B/P, HR, and RR were all normal for this patient, and she was alert and orientated.

Maybe consider the dose administered to accurately capture the intent of the Narcan administration?
Maybe also pull in vital signs (B/P, HR, RR) and level of consciousness (LOC) and/or A&O status into account
