Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS2v14: Preventative Care and Screening: Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan.
To answer your first question, the SNOMEDCT organization does not provide any further explanations/definitions of code 410224008 for “mental health care education (procedure)”. Mental health education can take many forms and the measure does not provide a definition in order to allow each eligible clinician to determine on their own how to meet the mental health education requirement. If the eligible clinician determines the provision of educational materials meets the “mental health education” intent, then this would satisfy the requirement.
To answer your second question, yes, mapping SNOMED CT 410224008 (Mental health care education (procedure)) to documentation of the follow-up plan during the encounter or up to 2 days following the encounter would meet the numerator criteria for the follow-up plan. This and other qualifying interventions are included in the "Follow Up for Adolescent Depression (2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.1569)" and "Follow Up for Adult Depression (2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.1568)" value sets.

      • Is there a resource that provides an explanation/definition of SNOMED CT 410224008 “mental health care education”?
        1. Would educational materials provided to the patient satisfy this requirement and satisfy the numerator criteria for the depression measure as appropriate follow-up?
      • Can you please confirm that SNOMED CT 410224008 (Mental health care education (procedure)), will, in and of itself, satisfy the numerator criteria for the depression screening measure and not require additional codes to be submitted with it?
