Thank you for your inquiry about CMS108v12/VTE-1 Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis. All cases follow a standard measure execution process. Although these cases meets both denominator exclusion and numerator conditions, denominator exclusions are applied prior to determination of whether the case meets the numerator. Thus, though these patients have met the numerator criteria, they will be excluded from the measure via denominator exclusions. For more information, please review the eCQM Flows posted on the eCQI Resource Center under 'eCQM Resources.' https://ecqi.healthit.gov/eh-cah?qt-tabs_eh=ecqm-resources&globalyearfilter=2024&global_measure_group=eCQMs. We hope this helps.

We have found patients that have procedures that fall into the SCIPS procedures value sets for VTE-1, and normally should be excluded. These same patients are receiving proper and timely prophylaxis for VTE and are showing up as compliant in our numerators. Is this acceptable? Is there a hierarchy in whether they should be included or excluded for the VTE-1 denominator?
