Thank you for your question on CMS871v4: Hospital Harm – Severe Hyperglycemia.

As this measure is a ratio measure, its Numerator is pulled directly from the Initial Population, rather than from the measure’s Denominator, unlike in proportion measures. Therefore, without the Numerator Exclusion criteria, the exclusions are not applied to patients in the measure’s Numerator, and these patients would not be excluded from Measure Observation 2 (associated with the Numerator). To ensure that the measure calculation appropriately excludes patients who meet the measure’s exclusion criteria, we recommend that systems are configured to capture both the measure’s Denominator Exclusions and Numerator Exclusions.

      Hi Team,

We have a query regarding Numerator exclusion.

As per TRN document, numerator exclusion has been added for inpatient hospitalizations that meet the denominator exclusions to align with measure intent to prevent cases from processing to the measure observations if the denominator exclusions are met.

      Query:

Our system is capable of capturing and restricting patient records(cases) to denominator exclusion whenever the patient has data meeting the denominator exclusion criteria. Is it still necessary to configure Numerator exclusion, as an extra check?

      Kindly assist.
