Thank you for your inquiry regarding VTE-1 CMS108v12 Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis.

Yes, you are correct that a patient who received a Mechanical VTE Prophylaxis during Outpatient status will meet numerator condition of "Encounter with VTE Prophylaxis Received From Day of Start of Hospitalization To Day After Admission or Procedure". However, only the Observation Status that ends within 1 hour before Inpatient Admission time will count, if the patient was in Observation from 8am - 9am and if the inpatient admission time is 5/1 9:45AM... then this Observation will be satisfying "HospitalizationWithObservation". However, if the inpatient admission time is 10:01am or later, it will not be counted as part of "HospitalizationWithObservation".

    • QRDA logic put patient in denominator when prophylaxis applied/administered prior to IP admission during Outpatient status. Should this be treated same as Obs/ED visit?

Is mechanical prophylaxis applied during Outpatient status (direct admit to floor) prior to IP admission counted/treated the same as if applied during Observation &/or ED visit?
