Thank you for your inquiry into CMS 986, the Global Malnutrition Composite Score. Measure performance should range only from 0-100%. The scenario listed above provides erroneous calculations, as described in EKI-21. The measure observation logic in MO2, MO3, and MO4 is missing the requirement that the valid encounter contains a “Malnutrition Risk Screening At Risk Result” or an ordered “Hospital Dietitian Referral”. This may result in erroneously high-performance scores not aligned with measure intent or a true measurement of performance. We are planning to correct this issue in a future update.

    • We are unsure if our results are accurate for this measure.

For measure observation 6, some patients are having scores of 200, 300 and 400. The measure observation 5 is 2, 3, and 4 respectively for these patients. Is this accurate? I thought this was supposed to be a percent out of 100. The patient with a result of 200 has a malnutrition risk screen score of no risk and a nutrition assessment of not or mildly malnourished and no order for hospital dietician referral.
