Thank you for your question about CMS1028 Severe Obstetric Complications. If a patient had a Severe Maternal Morbidity (SMM) diagnosis NOT present on admission and also received a blood transfusion during the delivery encounter, the patient would be in the numerator as well as Stratum 1.

Stratum1 is defined as delivery hospitalizations with severe obstetric complications excluding hospitalizations where transfusion was the only severe obstetric complication. Since transfusion is not the only severe obstetric complication, the case you present would meet Stratum 1 also.

      Hello,

If a mom had a blood transfusion and an SMM diagnosis POA; NO, would the case be counted only as Stratum 1, or would it also be counted in the numerator because of the blood transfusion?
