Thank you for your question about CMS1028v2, Severe Obstetric Complications. The intent of the measures is to include lab results as risk adjustment variables only if resulted before time of delivery. However, your suggestion to consider when the lab test is drawn, as opposed to resulted, will be discussed with our clinical experts for future consideration.

    • We don't have WBC and HCT pulling in for risk adjustment when the labs are drawn before delivery, but the lab does not report them until after the delivery.

We sometimes have someone come in to deliver and we draw labs before they deliver, but they are not reported by the lab until after birth time. For example, the patient has labs drawn at 1005, She delivers at 1025, the results are reported at 1027.  They show up in the chart as the "event time" (when the blood was drawn) but the results don't show up until after the birth. The specs say: "the first resulted value 24 hours prior to start of encounter and before time of delivery..." Since it says resulted and not performed, our vendor isn't pulling those results in because the results weren't available to view until after the delivery time. Is that the intent of the measure?  I would think it should be based on the time the lab was drawn, not the time the lab reported the results. Thank you!
