CMS0002v13
For the MIPS CQMS ID 134 Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan I wanted to clarify what an eligible follow up plan would constitute. The measure specifications indicate that the follow up plan must include one or more of the following:
- Referral to a provider for additional evaluation and assessment to formulate a follow-up plan for a positive depression screen
- Pharmacological interventions
- Other interventions or follow-up for the diagnosis or treatment of depression
If a patient already is following a regimen that is controlling their depression symptoms, but they have a positive PHQ9 screening, is it acceptable for a provider to document "no action required" for a positive depression screening? Or does the follow up plan have to include more clinical details outlining continuing medications, therapy, or referral to new specialist?
