Per the measure specification, an age-appropriate, standardized, and validated depression screening tool must be used for numerator compliance and the name of the screening tool utilized must be documented in the medical record. The measure is not prescriptive as to which depression screening tool is used and providers are encouraged to use their own clinical judgement to select an age-appropriate screening tool for their individualized patient population.
