Thank you for your follow-up question regarding CMS69v11: Preventive Care and Screening: Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening and Follow-Up Plan. We can confirm that the patient’s BMI should be generated from a height and weight measured by the eligible clinician or their staff during the measurement period. As per the guidance section in the measure specifications:

      “BMI Measurement Guidance:

      - Height and Weight - An eligible professional or their staff is required to measure both height and weight. Both height and weight must be measured during the measurement period. Self-reported values cannot be used.”

We recently asked this question and did not receive a response. Please confirm if height and weight measurements should come from the measurement period and not historical or patient-reported data.

We previously received a response from JIRA that BMIs should be generated from heights and weights measured during the measurement period and not historical or patient reported data, so a height that was documented in a prior year cannot be used. However, this does not align with clinical practice especially for adults where height is not measured at every annual visit. Weight however is updated, and BMI is recalculated within the measurement period. Is there any flexibility, or ability to advocate to CMS to consider modification of the spec?
