CMS56v12: Functional Status Assessment for Total Hip Replacement
-Based on the description of CMS56v12, "Percentage of patients 19 years of age and older who received an elective primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) and completed a functional status assessment within 90 days prior to the surgery and in the 300 - 425 days after the surgery", the measure suggests that the functional status assessment prior to the surgery is expected to be administered by any provider that patient may see prior to surgery as opposed to just the orthopedic provider performing the surgery. However, some specialties such as OB/GYN, ENT, Allergy, and Dermatology do not administer the functional status assessment as part of their scope of practice.
-As cited in the clinical recommendation "several specialty societies support the use of a general health questionnaire" but are these specialties orthopedic specialties? Can the definition of the measure and logic be clarified to limit the workflow to the specialties that are expected to perform the functional assessment?
