Thank you for this question. While the measure does not require clinicians to conduct an ASCVD risk assessment, many EHR systems now include a "built-in" ASCVD risk estimator. Further, the American College of Cardiology makes freely available its risk estimator, which is available online (ASCVD Risk Estimator + (acc.org). As outlined in the measure's Guidance, two ASCVD risk estimators (based on the Pooled Cohort Equations) are recommended: 1) the 2013 ACC/AHA ASCVD Risk Estimator (maps to LOINC code 79423-0) or 2) the ACC Risk Estimator Plus (maps to LOINC Code 99055-6).
That said, and while we encourage ASCVD risk assessments, if you are unable to conduct ASCVD risk assessments, you would be unable to report any cases as eligible for the measure's fourth population; if you report all eligible cases for the other three measure populations, you could still report the measure.

    • Statin Therapy for the Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease (CMS347v7): 2024 MIPS Population 4 workflow and low denominator concerns

We plan to choose the Statin Therapy for the Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease measure to report for MIPS in 2024 (CMS347v7), We will have numerators and denominators for populations 1-3. We do not currently performed ASCVD risk esimates as we do not have cardiology in our practice. Are we able to report 0 for numerator and denominator for Population 4 and still get credit for this measure if the other populations 1-3 have numerators and denominators?
