Thank you for your question about rounding of gestational age for CMS1028, the Severe Obstetric Complications eCQM, PC-07 & CMS334, the Cesarean Birth eCQM, PC-02. As you stated the Guidance section for these measures indicates that an infant born on the 5th day of the 36th week (35 weeks and 5/7 days) is at a gestational age of 35 weeks, not 36 weeks. Applying this guidance to a calculated gestational age of 38 weeks and 6 days should be reported as 38 weeks, not 37 weeks. Your second question where gestational age is 38 weeks and 5 days should be reported as 38 weeks and not 37 weeks. Gestational age should be rounded down to the nearest completed week. I hope this clears up any confusion.

    • Gestational age correctly represented in QRDA file before submitted

Guidance for both PC-07 and PC-02 re: GA states, "Note however the calculation may yield a non-whole number and gestational age should be rounded off to the nearest completed week. For example, an infant born on the 5th day of the 36th week (35 weeks and 5/7 days) is at a gestational age of 35 weeks, not 36 weeks.

Using this guidance, can you confirm that a calculated gestational age of 38w6d would need to be shown in the QRDA file as 37wks? Or 38w5d would also need to show up in the file as a gestational age of 37 weeks?
