Thank you for your inquiry about the logic for CMS138v11 Preventive Care and Screening: Tobacco Use: Screening and Cessation Intervention. Correct that the tobacco use cessation pharmacotherapy medication ordered and active should be during the measurement period OR in the 6 months prior to the start of the measurement period, in other words, 6 months prior to the start of the measurement period through the end of the measurement period. The measure logic looks for Medication Active attributes “relevantPeriod” or “relevantDatetime”, or Medication Order attribute “authorDatetime”, to fall within the timeframe. If any of the timing provided through the scenario falls within the timeframe (i.e., medication active 3/31/2023-11/7/2023 for 2023 measurement period), then that would be counted towards the Numerator.

    • The impact of this decision would be for the patients receiving pharmacotherapy for tobacco cessation and whether or not these patients can meet the measure.

Hello!  My question is in regard to pharmacotherapy for tobacco cessation and the time frame in which the order for the therapy occurs.  In the measure specification for eCQM Measure #138 there is Ordered and Active Pharmacotherapy Cessation for tobacco use.  The timeframe specified for pharmacotherapy ordered / active is during the measurement period and 6 months prior to the start of the measure period.

My question would be if a patient began pharmacotherapy on 3/31/23 (during the measure period) and stopped on 11/7/23 (also during the measure period) - would the patient qualify for having and active order for tobacco cessation pharmacotherapy and meet the measure?  (All other criteria for the measure have been satisfied)

      Thank you!
