    • Thank you for your question regarding CMS506v5 Safe Use of Opioids - Concurrent Prescribing. Swing bed patients are currently included in this measure. We will consider this exclusion during the next annual update.

    • Swing Bed patients being included in the denominator of the Safe Use of Opioids measure.

For the Safe Use of Opioids measure we are seeing patients being included in the denominator admitted to SubAcute/Swing Beds within our facility. Is this Service Type and Class meant to be included in this measure? The Admission Type is Elective [3]. In the Value set when looking at Encounter Inpatient there are only three subsequent options.
      1. Emergency hospital admission (procedure)
      2. Hospital admission (procedure (procedure)
      3. Hospital admission, elective (procedure)
The patient was not admitted to the Swing Bed for an elective procedure. They were admitted for Aftercare following a fall and subsequent fracture. There were no procedures performed during the Swing Bed stay.

IS the measure intent to include Swing Bed patients?
