Our hospital system consists of a large main hospital with several satellite EDs and health complexes associated with it. These entities are stand alone and cannot provide PCI services for STEMI patients; therefore, patients must be transferred to the main hospital for care. The problem we are having is a transfer order is written rather than a discharge order when these transfers must occur. Since no discharge order is written the reports do not recognize a transfer to another facility has occurred, so they are not able to determine if the transfer happened within 45 minutes. The reports are also using the 90 minutes or less for PCI timing for these patients which is not appropriate since the patient was transferred. How can we make sure we are capturing this data correctly?
